Over at Sears, the folks at Craftsman just came out with new magnetic tool storage products – a magnetic tool board, a screwdriver holder, and a paper towel holder.
A quick search shows that you can buy the same organizers from other brands. Although that means none of these storage or organization accessories are really “new,” at least they’re competitively priced.

That’s why I never let go of my old man’s good ole US gen stuff lol can’t miss em as long as I’ve still got my wrenches, drivers, and pro series stuff. Shame how the company went though, hopefully sbd can do right by that legacy. Never know.

Stanley Black and Decker appear to have about 30 brands . Craftsman will have trouble standing out in that group. I fear they bought it only to keep from having to compete with it

SBD’s comments suggest otherwise … I would expect Craftsman to become one of the flagship brands under the SBD umbrella, similar to DeWalt. The $80 million initial capital investment would represent about a third of the company’s Tools & Storage capital spending last year … that’s a pretty big investment and probably indicative of their plans for the brand.

I wonder if the slow development of the Craftsman brand after the sale has to do with distribution contracts, Craftsman is available at Sears, Kmart and Ace…I find it hard to believe Lowe’s or Home Depot would bring in a Craftsman branded tool into their store. Maybe regional and online stores are where they’ll be going.

I don’t like to have my tools magnetized when they shouldn’t be. I tend to stay away from magnetized holders for that reason.

I’m with you. There are so many other ways of hanging tools up – that I prefer.
I also hate magnetic tipped tape measures, and even dislike how magnetized screwdriver bits tend to accumulate swarf or the odd bit of iron detritus.
But, the magnetic paper towel holder looks like it has possibilities. I could see it attached to a rolling cabinet.

I bought some 12″ magnetic knife holders at a kitchen outlet sale……they have enough grip for wrenches. $2.00 each.

I saw a magnetic paper towel holder at Lowes. It was black. My 84 year old dad has a black chest. I think I will get him the Lowes version. I wonder if the original manufacturer is the same.
