New Snap-on Extra-Long 1/4″ Ratchet

Snap-on Extra-Long Small Ratchet

Snap-on’s new extra-long 1/4″ ratchet (TLL72) is designed for easier access of hard-to-reach fasteners. The ratchet features a 9-inch handle, as well as sealed 72-tooth dual-pawl gearing for a 5° swing arc.

While the ratchet is plenty strong, users should take note of its maximum torque limit of 90 ft-lbs. It’s not a breaker bar – the ratchet was designed for reach and close-quarters access, such as for work under auto dashboards.

The ratchet is made in the USA and is priced at $72 online. Dealer prices might vary.

90 ft lbs is a lot for a 1/4 ratchet.

Yes, but the longer handle means users can exert greater leverage than with other 1/4″ ratchets as well.

I could strip a lot of nuts with that. Nice.

While not a SnapOn – Lowes sells a 12.5 inch long “Kobalt” #85852 flex head 1/4 Drive 36 tooth ratchet – made in Taiwan for $49.97

Fifty bucks for a 1/4″ Kobalt ratchet seems like a lot.

I’ll give Snap on this though, at least it’s American made and seems to be based on the image well made. Not saying I would buy this, but I’ll give Snap On that much.

While this could obviously provide better leverage, a 1/4 inch drive and torque are almost a contradiction in terms. I think that this is more about reach and accessibility than serious leverage.

The average fastener that is turned with a 1/4 inch drive is usually too small to put any serious muscle on anyway. If I needed more leverage, I’d probably just be reaching for a larger drive size and 1/4 inch to ?? adapter.

its not for leverage as much as it is for access.

Agreed, but that won’t stop some users from pushing it to its limits.
