Okay, so that’s $179 minus $25 – $154. For the bare tool!!
With this kit, you get a whole lot more than just the bare tool, you get batteries, a charger, tool bag, and an impact driver.
Right now on Amazon they have this special bundle for $149, and they say only 1 is left in stock with “more on the way.”
This is an unbeatably good price. Sure, the impact driver is their value-focused model, which is typically $99 for the tool, charger, single battery, and tool bag. So with this deal, for $50 more you get an impact wrench that retails for at least $100 more than that, plus another LXT battery.
Makita’s really making this year’s holiday shopping season quite interesting. Right now, all other dealers have this combo for $179 (if at all). Amazon is the only one with $149 pricing.

Too bad it’s not a 3/8” drive. Near pointless making it a 1/2” drive. It’s a midrange impact gun, not a lug nut buster. Having to use an adapter starts to defeat the midsized point of it.

Maybe 1/2″ sockets can be easier to find? Or some users already have 1/2″ sockets and don’t want to buy more for just one impact.
Brands know which tools sell better, and that gets factored in how they craft these special buys and promo kits.

At these torque ratings, no need to use dedicated impact sockets. Any standard (good quality) chrome sockets are plenty sufficient for this size of tool.
Maybe Makita is realizing the mismatch of anvil size to need and so that’s why their clearing out the tools on special. Kind of like they gave away 1000’s of the 1st gen 4.0 batteries which were new at the time but already behind the curve having no fuel gauge built-in.
Those free batteries gave them a way to clear out that ill-fated fuel-gauge-less manufacturing decision and make way for the gen2 versions.

Just bought it on Home Depot for $149, with free shipping. I love shopping Amazon but they will pull a fast one once in a while like now, boosting price to $199. Hey, 50 bucks is 50 bucks.

I know everyone loves bigger batteries but I kinda feel like subcompact tools are a rare use case for the dreaded 1.5 ah.

It’s a tough consideration.
Compact batteries, e.g. 2.0Ah, are better matches for the smaller tools.
LXT batteries 3.0Ah and up can be used with all Makita 18V tools and are better matches for their heavier duty kits.
Maybe 3.0Ah costs less due to sales volumes?

LXT 2.0 batts can be used with all the tools as well. No longer any protective tabs built into some tools prohibiting the use of the slim batts. I love the slim batts for lighter weight and nimbleness using my 1/4″ impact driver for most tasks. I’m done using heavy ass high amp tools in overkill mode for a good portion of the work I do that doesnt require it.
