Over at BladeHQ, this Spyderco Dragonfly 2 mini folding pocket knife is on sale for $40. Shipping is $6, or free with an $89+ order. Alternatively, it’s $46 from Amazon, with free shipping.
I bought a similar knife 4 years ago – the Dragonfly 2 with serrated blade. While I can’t say it’s frequently carried as part of my EDC rotation, it is a much-loved knife.

The Dragonfly 2 is very small, with just a 2.25″ knife blade and 5.56″ overall length. It weighs just 1.2 ounces. It’s so small it would probably be at home on your keychain.
Despite its small size, the Spyderco Dragonfly 2 is a very usable knife. It’s comfortable to hold, and if my memory is accurate, it was sharp and very ready for business right out of the box.
I like the Dragonfly 2 as a multi-tool companion. Sometimes I like to carry a larger folding knife, but if I have a multi-tool on or with me, and don’t have room for a full-size folding knife, it’s often the Dragonfly 2 that gets pocketed or packed away.

Spyderco makes these knives in Japan.
I ordered the serrated version from Amazon, because I wanted to see how well Spyderco’s SpyderEdge serrated blade style worked. Thinking back, I sometimes wish I bought the plain edge blade version of this knife, although the serrations due come in handy at times.
The Dragonfly 2 has a lockback blade lock, fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN) handle grip, lanyard hole, “Spydero hole” for blade opening, and wire clip.

Another thing we love and I have it, awesome. Got this little thing from my girlfriend as a b-day present – it is extremely useful and beats my other “adult sized” EDC folders in many tasks. Works very well as an exacto replacement as well and is the most used blade at my workbench. Also worth noting – it weighs nothing. I owned 14 EDC blades in my life and Dragonfly is one of two that I never took out of my pocket because there was no discomfort even when I slouched in the couch watching a movie or something.

These lil things are cool,Ive been a Spyderco fan since I was a kid and got my first one.
I was thinking of getting my boys these, should fit 9 and 8 year old hands well. They are really getting into tools and using their hands,I think I was around 7 or 8 when my dad gave me my first pocket knife. Just gotta teach them proper technique.
SpyderEdge serrated blades are wicked sharp. VG-10 Blade holds a good edge . For $40 you get a very capable blade.
I got my wife the Spyderco Delica4 last year for christmas, she uses it all the time, despite saying “why do I need that?” hehe.

Have an Endura in VG10 that I use for everything. Spyderco is a great company because Sal (the owner) listens to the community and he’s always willing to try new and different steels.

Carry a plain edge Dragonfly 2 or Sog Flash I every day. Have a Delica 4 that stays at home because it’s larger size will sometimes raise a few eyebrows. Nobody even blinks when they see the Dragonfly. Even my Mini Griptillian scares some people so that one stays at home too.

I bought my wife a fixed blade Mora to carry in her handbag. Everyone thinks she’s hardcore when she yanks it out.
I’ve never been fond of serrated blades. I think they are marketed to those who are unlikely to ever use it frequently.

The only time I consistently used one was when i worked at a summer camp and had to cut a lot of rope. They are good to have if you are doing things like rock climbing.
Rope, steak, and bread it about it. Maybe a seatbelt.
Half serrated are the worst. Cannot do either adequately.

Half serrated blades are ok for small knives when you just need an all-rounder that might wind up being used to cut rope, cord, straps, seatbelts, etc. and need to do so in a hurry.
The also-tiny Swiss-Tech Utili-Key has a tiny blade with a small serrated part, which makes it surprisingly good at cutting stuff in seconds that would otherwise take you longer with the smooth blade, or your teeth.
I do agree that a plain edge is best for 99% of what you’d use a knife for otherwise, plus it makes sharpening a lot easier.

I guess it’s nice they make their tiny knives semi-affordable, but I’ve never liked the thumb-hole design of Spyderco’s, it just makes for a very tall blade that doubles the height of the whole knife when closed vs. just using a traditional drop point blade.
They are quality, I’m sure, I just would like to see them come out with more designs that don’t use the thumb-hole. It really seems limiting to incorporate that feature on almost every single blade, no matter what.

I collected mushrooms another day. First i went with An Opinel 9, great for cutting mushrooms. But every time when i found one i must open with two hands etc. With Spyderco calypso Jr. Superblue in my shirt pocket was a joy to open with one hand and cut instantly, we found a lot of mushrooms 🙂
