Sep 24, 2013 Stuart 12 Comments

If you buy something through our links, ToolGuyd might earn an affiliate commission.

Over at our choose your prize giveaway, a couple of people asked for Stack-On steel tool boxes, so I decided to take a closer look.

These tool boxes feature rugged steel construction, a full-length hinge, steel handle, and a durable rust and solvent-resistant baked epoxy finish. The larger boxes have removable tool trays.

Some if not all of these tool boxes are made in the USA.

I was one of those members who asked for a Stack-On Model numberR-420 20-Inch General Purpose Steel Tool Box that is red.

100% American made and made out of steel. Seemingly impossible to find metal tool boxes that are made in the United States of America, except for maybe Snap-On boxes possibly and finding them on eBay.

This would be an awesome item to receive but would not just help myself and others, but support American manufacturing as well.

I had no idea such boxes still existed! Thanks for the heads up!

Hard to believe myself actually. I just found out of Stack-On tool boxes as well. It’s a complete and utter shame, some manufacturers no longer create American made metal tool boxes, as I rather buy an all American made metal tool box rather than one that is made overseas that chances are, aren’t that much cheaper.

But then again, your average consumer could care less about the country of origin of products, so I am in the very small minority seemingly.

Let’s not forget Kennedy tool boxes! They’re quality steel boxes, still made in the good ole USA (Ohio). I’ve got one at least twenty years old that’s still in great shape! Anybody else have Kennedy boxes?

Bill: The only Kennedy I have heard of was one of the US presidents. I have never heard of this company, but if they manufacture 100% made in the United States of America, in this case Ohio, steel boxes, I am definitely interested.

Thank you very much for the information. This was exceptionally helpful.

I bet you’ll recognize their boxes when you see their logo and brown boxes!

Looks like there is a SHB-19 in black. Had I know that these were US made, I would have bought one of these instead of the Excell box.

I currently have four Kennedy tool boxes. The newest one is about 25 years, the oldest is about 60 years. All of them are vey well used and in near new condition.

Just learned that Harry J Epstein also has several Kennedy USA made tool boxes, but they aren’t the small portable variations though.

I have 2 of the 16″ boxes and I love them. I was looking for a sturdy small toolbox like my grandfather had for keeping various inside the house tools and wanted metal and made in the USA if possible. These fit the bill for both and are priced great!

I use one of them for junkyard tool hauling and another for storing my grinder and grinding wheels. (So much easier than trying to use the case the grinder cane with!)

I’m sure I’ll pick up more soon for various other uses around the house.
