I was taking a look at Amazon’s new tool and home improvement products when I came across this Tiffany’s Tools tool kit. It comes with a couple of basic tools and a patent leather tool case. Yes, it’s obviously designed for women.
Tiffany, the company president, is a ballerina; the CEO is businessman, and the product developer is a ballet dancer. Their company motto is where style meets function, with the tools were created exclusively for the woman with the most discerning sense of style.

I’ve seen tools designed by “handymen” before, and they’re rarely any good. The designs are clumsy, flashy, and gimmicky. But this? It’s brilliant marketing at the least. It seems to me that the kits are all about the leather tool totes, with the tools being simple rebrands of common tried and true designs.
The tool kits are available with white or black bags, and come with a stubby hammer, small tape measure, pliers, wire cutter, a utility knife, adjustable wrench, and interchangeable bit screwdriver. At $80 each, Tiffany’s Tools’ tool kits are several times the price of other women’s tool kits.

While I’m not a woman, I know that women who use tools would never go for this. But it’s not meant for them, it’s meant for women that have things to do and no tools to do it with. It’s also for women who don’t want to struggle with unwieldy masculine wooden hammers and the such. (Those are the founder’s words, not mine!) Well, at least none of these tools are pink.

I’m often curious if women find these sort of tool kits insulting. If nothing else paying $80 for $20 worth of tools should anyone’s intelligence.
Pam
I Looooooove tools especially designed for women. not insulted at all!
Javier
$80 HA!

Like me, my wife is quite handy and laughs at pink tools. But…she did ask for a SnapOn ratcheting screwdriver…in pink. I was happy to oblige.

I agree with Dennis,
Stuff like this is pure marketing BS. They put a bunch of CHEAP tools in a fancy package and call it a “woman’s tool kit.” I imagine that women who really USE tools with real frequency, would scoff at this. I think I got into the wrong line of work. I’ve realized in recent years that marketing is almost everything. It’s more important than the product itself.
I could see women being insulted. The implication is that they’re not smart enough to realize that these are “bargain bin, junk drawer” items.

“I’ve realized that marketing is almost everything.” Fortunately (unfortunately?) I’ve come to the same realization.
When you think about it, there are tons of gimmicky products aimed at men that don’t frequently use tools as well, especially around Christmas and Father’s Day.

With that price, I almost expect this set to be from Snap-On or so. I doubt these “tools” are worth more than $10-20 dollars at best, let alone that price tag. These tools look rather cheap and I imagine these made offshore as well.
For $80, you could complete buy all these tools listed at Harry J Epstein, eBay or even Grainger with money to spare. Man, you could even buy vintage/some new stock USA made items with likely money to spare as well.
But can anyone tell me how wood can be masculine? As since wood can’t lift weights or for that matter exercise, rationally that is not possible for wood to be masculine.
I would like to think I have some knowledge of wood, given that I’ve done some carpentry work in the past and present.

Yup, echoing the sentiments that this is simply “marketing BS.” My wife doesn’t use tools frequently by any means, but enough that we opted to get her some of her own tools.
Instead of picking up one of these “designer” women’s tool kits, we pieced together a quality kit from several different name brands that would allow her to tackle a myriad of minor tasks on her own, as well as pursue her hobbies/crafts that require tooling as well.
As I said, she’s not a dedicated tool user, but understands what a quality tool is and appreciates the ones we selected for her. In fact, she does find these women’s tool kits rather “insulting,” although that might be a bit strong of a word.

Not insulted not at all! Everyone loves them!I have bought at least 10 of these. I give them as graduation gifts for all the girls. They only have to use them infrequently and know exactly where they are everytime they need a tool. I also have one . Prevents a lot of arguments by providing me with my own tools meaning I don’t have to use his precious tools and hear endless chatter about putting his tools up…bla bla bla! Funny I caught him using it! I love them!

Sooooooo not insulted! I am a wedding designer and always like to show up in style! I saw my girlfriend with one of these and thought it was so chic, I simply had to get one. Now all my team designers will get one as a gift so they too can show up on the job ready to work and in style! I take mine with me and everyone swears it’s a regular handbag until I open it up and they’re seeing TOOLS! Now everyone wants one. Such a clever idea and thanks for thinking of us girly-girls!!!
Sandra
I’m so happy to see that there’s tools for women even in a girly girly I often shopped with snap on as I am a Woman diesel mechanic retired now 18 years but I enjoy these tools and I’m giving them to my God child as a gift .

I am a woman and I teach women how to use power tools and I got this one in black and noone in the house is allowed to touch them. Sure they are cheap but i use them all the time for small work inside the house and they are just fine.

I was just recently given one of these Tiffany Tools “kits” and I was curious how much they go for. For $80?!? That’s a joke. Sorry but I already own all of these tools, don’t most normal Americans? I’m reselling this case of crap for $40 and using the $ to pay on some bills.
