Hate rebates/ebates. Took weeks to get rebate on gallon of paint ($10) on Behr..only to get a HD card with expiration date for $10. WTF can you get for $10 (exact)..nothing. Sure, apply to other purchase, but that means remembering that card and using it before it expires. No. Don’t like ebates/rebates. And not with expiration. Betting way too much on people forgetting or letting it lapse.
Man, I sure am cranky today … 😀

The deal that caught my eye for the Acme 12 days of, because Bessey and Jet clamps have been mentioned lately on this site, is they have a BOGO for Jet 31 inch and 12 inch clamps:

Gut feel is it saves you about 25% off on the pair versus true normal prices.
They also have other “deals” on Jet clamps. The next best deal seems to be a kit with 2 40 in and 2 24in clamps for $200:

I am looking for a name brand set of Vise grips/locking pliers. Mine are scattered and some lost and I would like to get a complete set. Looking at the Irwin and Milwaukee but waiting for a great price! I am a little cautious purchasing from Irwin currently as a few months ago I ordered (separately) assorted c-clamps from Irwin and was mad when they arrived as all of them but 1-2 were made in India which is the worst of worse IMO for refined quality tools. The c-clamps looked like they came right out of the forge and dipped in chalky thick paint with no attention to refinement after casting! I sent them all back and re-ordered WEN C- clamps. The China made WEN are not the quality of my vintage Craftsman but notches ahead of the garbage Irwin C clamps!

Harry J Epstein still has the discontinued Malcos in stock.

Locking pliers 7” and 10” in straight and curved jaw
      C-clamps 8” and 11”.

      All for $30 each.

Not sure you can do better than that

Malco Eagle Grips should still be available.

Third cheer for the Malco at HJE if you want better-than-vintage quality. Not sure how long those will last but when they’re gone, they’re gone for good apparently.

The Milwaukee ones are pretty decent and the adjustment screw is nice if you really need to torque it down. Tekton are good also, made in Taiwan, good steel and rivets but the teeth could stand to be sharper and harder. I wouldn’t buy any from Irwin these days except maybe the c-grips but you can find those cheaper from other brands for the same import quality.

Grip-On still makes high quality ones in a ton of different configurations. Many of those are available on Amazon under that original brand or by Bahco.

GreatStar has mostly kept up the quality of the c-clamps from Pony/Adjustable but they aren’t quite what they used to be. Good value anyway, if you don’t mind blaze orange. Cripes Distributing had a bunch of various c-clamps at good liquidation prices (mostly) so it may be worth browsing there. I’ve wondered if the Wen clamps were made by GreatStar…the acme threaded ones appear to be decent enough from the handful I’ve seen (don’t own any of those myself).

Engineer (aka Vamplier in the US) also has good vise grips but they all have the bulky rubber grip (removable) and the screw-gripping end grooves, which are great but not always wanted. Those are made in Taiwan also, maybe a slight notch above Tekton in quality. Many of the Engineer tools are made in Japan, but not those.

Another note on GreatStar and c-clamps. Their main house brand has for years been Workpro, and some of the items under that label are pretty good or better than decent…some are junk, however. I saw some of their c-clamps on Amazon awhile back and they could be the same as the current Pony/Adjustable at a slightly better price, and they had some sets/deals…not positive they’re the same product, though (and their smaller non-acme ones are just cheapo junk clamps).

I’ve been happy with my Grip-Ons. The price is a little high, but not crazy. Made in Spain. Mine lock and unlock smoothly, without trying to jump out of your hand. They also have a stop nut on the adjustment so you can lock in the jaw opening, which is unusual.

They make a wide variety of pliers, including a pair that clamp onto a table, leaving the jaws pointing upwards and ready to grip a pipe or whatever. I’ve never seen that elsewhere.

I haven’t handled them, but Craftsman makes some ones that look decent, with thick padded handles.

There is a ridgid deal for 199 for three nailers and a pancake compressor that is more compelling than those dotd ones. I have that Dewalt and I like the compressor though.
