Viper Tool Carts

When it comes to tool storage, bigger is better, right? Not really. Most of the time, yes, but there are times when you just don’t need a full-size tool chest. Sometimes you just need a compact tool cart with a couple of drawers and a flat worktop, something like Viper’s tool cart.

These 16″ wide Viper tool carts may be small, but they’re not wimpy. Each drawer is 16-1/2″ deep and 12-3/4″ wide, with ball bearing slides rated to 100-lbs each. The top drawer is 6-1/2″ tall, the middle three are each 3-1/8″ tall, and the bottom compartment is 15-1/8″.

A cam-lock mechanism provides protection against unauthorized tool-borrowing and 2-inch casters make the cart portable.

The carts are 16″ wide, 18″ deep, and 36-1/2″ tall, and the frame is made from 18 gauge steel. Drawer pulls are made from extruded aluminum and the side handle is polished chrome.

The carts are typically priced around $280-$300.

They’ve got great specs and good lucks, but how well do Viper tool storage products perform? We’ve heard some good things in the past, but Viper’s not as much of a household name as Craftsman, Waterloo, and Kennedy. Please chime in if you’ve had any experience with Viper tool storage products!

Can’t say that I have any personal experience with this brand, but the idea of a compact roller like this is pretty sound. This would be ideal for particular-task oriented work and storage. I’d consider getting a couple to use as a diagnostic stand and a detailing cart, for example. Since these two tasks require a fair amount of dedicated tools, accessories and such, keeping them all together in one movable cart makes sense. Line them up against a wall when not in use, and everything contained therein is still right at hand. The fact that there is such a small footprint for each one puts a lot of flexible storage in a few square feet. They’d roll nicely under a tall workbench, shelves or wall-mounted cabinets too.

I have a Viper 18 inch 2 drawer tool chest and it is really nice. I have a small rolling tool chest from master mechanic and searched everywhere for a tool chest for the top. The Viper is incredibly well made, the drawers are super smooth and the handles are crazy burly.
