Weird Al “Handy” Music Video is Pretty Funny

Weird Al with Velvet Socket Set

My wife sent me a tip about a new Weird Al parody – “Handy” – which is based off the pop song “Fancy” (link). She waited to watch it with me, otherwise I probably would have skipped it. I’m glad I didn’t, as the music video is actually hilarious. While I’m tempted to tell you more about it, or show you screenshots, you will probably want to just watch it yourself:

When my wife asked “who makes those sockets,” I didn’t even have to think about it. In addition to the Kobalt set, it looks like there’s a Bostitch hammer in there. Looks like the music video props team stocked up at Lowes.

If the embedded video doesn’t work for you, here’s the direct link: Handy via Yahoo.

    Ok,

Now that was funny, and I hate to admit enjoying anything by WAY. Brought to mind my latest fiasco with the (unnamed) Home Depot delivery contractor…

I had to run a new water line for the water/ice maker while they figured out how to get a 25 C/Ft fridge through a doorway. Lets just say Laurel and Hardy and the three stooges had nothing on these two guys. I had torn out the old copper line after being sold a new PEX line, and low and behold, they wouldn’t touch it and didn’t have the right thing even if they were willing to put it in. So, Joe scrambles to find a copper line he left somewhere in the basement, tubing cutter left somewhere in the long put away plumbing tools, and the tubing bender, likewise lost from a time when Joe swore off plumbing. Anyway, felt just like Al there as they were leaving two and a half hours later. And my wife makes fun of me!

    Thanks for the laugh!

My pick up line: Hey girl, have you had your pipes checked? I’m a “handy” man.

    Funny video…lol

Weird Al’s song White and Nerdy used to be my theme song. Now I’m going to have to change it to Handy.

This the third video off of this new album I’ve seen, and they have all been good. I recommend Word Crimes for those who like to post on the internet.

Stuart, hands down this one of the best posts I’ve read in a very long time. But best I mean it as well. News on USA made tools is typically the best type of news, but every now and then, you see great videos such as this.

    Thank you for sharing.

The guys at my shop have sort of made a game out of asking about certain tools to see if I can produce it from my truck. It’s fun because I almost always do. If I don’t have it in the truck it’s usually in the garage and I can grab it at lunch. It started when I would see them working on something and I realize that I have something that would make their task much easier, so I suddenly appear with exactly what they need. (Usually simple things like a particular type of square or an angle finder, but sometimes electric sheet metal shears or a compact torch or ???)

My wife has long complained about my tool buying habits but I am now seen as virtually indispensable. And while I was hired to install new equipment, I now have guys in other parts of the shop coming to me asking me to fix their equipment. When the air compressor or whatever else quits they come straight to me. It’s really a lot of fun. I get to be Bob Vila, Tim Taylor, and Angus MacGuyver every day. 🙂
