Some of the prices are lower than I’ve seen in recent sales, others are higher.

I have a mix of Wera tools from Amazon and other USA sources, and a whole lot that I ordered from Amazon’s online store in the UK and Germany. Some tools, usually the pricier tools, cost less to buy from Europe, even with international shipping fees.
The same goes for Knipex tools.
Side note, since we’re on the subject – I’ve been ordering a lot of hand tools from Amazon Japan recently, and so far *knock on wood* I’ve been surprised at the speed and care in which my orders have been fulfilled.

Wera tools are amazing.
I use their screwdrivers daily. Their screwdrivers grip with 0 cam out. I have never broken a screwdriver tip with wera…. now other brands, it was a daily occurance till I switched. Top quality.

It’s been a slow process.
First, only certain brands are available on Amazon.
Second, how to tell the junk brands from the good ones?
With all the names being unfamiliar, and many being brands not commonly talked about in USA forums and other online communities, it’s hard to tell which brands to explore.

A few years ago I did a Amazon Japan stationery order, both to get NAINA items and to save some $$$. One important note is that to use Amazon Japan’s shipping, all items MUST be ordered from Amazon Japan, not third part sellers. (A lot (most?) third party sellers do not ship internationally; you would have to use a forwarder with a Japanese address to buy from them).

That’s true with Amazon DE and UK as well – I would never order from an international Amazon store except if it’s sold and shipped by Amazon directly.

I’ve been trying brands such as Top and Hozan and also expanded SKUs from Engineer, Vessel, Anex, and Lobster.
And, I talked on some office supplies that I typically order from USA sellers.
With Amazon UK and DE, shipping rates tend to accumulate fast. With Amazon Japan, you still pay shipping, but it’s not as much as I would have expected.
The cardboard in the EU and JP packages are paper thin and sometimes arrive with a little damage.
Amazon Japan doesn’t package like Amazon USA at all. Lots of small stuff might be bundled loose in a box, or it might be bagged up, or shrink-wrapped around a sheet of carboard that I would swear was hot-glued to the box.
For one or two tools, it’s cost-effective to buy from Amazon USA. For a bunch, or tools and SKUs not available here, ordering Amazon Japan has been very reasonable.
Keep in mind I’ve only been ordering from there for a month or so. I hesitated to do so for the longest time, but the site has an automatic translation button that makes thing easier, and I’m sure they’ll be able to read my email if I have to communicate a problem with an order.
I had a problem with Amazon DE, and they were able to fix it easily despite the language difference.

Wood owl makes a pretty stout auger bit. I’ve used them to drill down through top plates for doing blown insulation in walls. They cut right through nails

It seems to be $95 at Chads Toolbox – maybe close to Amazon if they send you a 10% off coupon and/or are willing to do their 115% price match. Either way close enough that I’d stick with Amazon based on service and return policy.

I ended up purchasing only the Tool Check Plus Metric, which arrived today (should have bought more!).
Just wanted to say thank you to Stuart and everyone else. What *nice* stuff this is! I have been buying and accumulating tools since before I could drive, in the mid-70s, so I have seen, handled and owned a lot of tools. There are quite a treat in every way.

Be warned though – a Wera Bit Check helped start me down a very expensive path. The best part is the compactness of everything, in contrast to the “more is better!” approach many USA brands take with their tool sets.
