Amazon dropped the prices of most Wera Zyklop and Koloss ratchets and ratchet sets over the weekend. We don’t recall ever seeing prices this low. Several extensions and other drive accessories have been discounted as well.
As with other Amazon price-drops, we have no idea if it is temporary unannounced sale or permanent adjustment. Going by the market price of most Wera Zyklop products, our guess is that this is a temporary sale.

Wera Zyklop 1/2″ Ratchet

Wera Zyklop Extensions
We’re not the only ones watching these tool. One of the ratchets sold out a few hours after the initial price drop and is now only available with a 2-4 week backorder.

These are all great sets but, unfortunately, they are all made in Taiwan.

Taiwan make good quality tools.
I have ratchets and sockets that are made in Tawian 15 years, no rust and ratchet is still working. I don’t take care of my tools as I should.
Thomas
Taiwan made tools are usually very high quality these days, i have a lot of tools made there, unlike 99% of Chinese made stuff i wont pass up things due to being made there (unless its priced the same as an American or European made tool)

Chads Toolbox is my usual source for pricing comparisons on Wera, Wiha, Felo, NWT, Hazet etc. Based on a quick look at a few of the sets – The Amazon pricing looks good.
My past limited experience with Wera (I don’t buy many automotive tools so it is mostly screwdrivers and bits – including some sets) has been very good. A quick look at my inventory says 64 items ($783) came from the Czech Republic and 34 items ($687) came from Germany. These were all acquired in 2010 through just a few months ago in early 2012. If Andrew is right – and they’ve recently moved production to Taiwan – I’m not sure if my experience is still valid
Andrew
I have a lot of wera stuff… most from czech republic.. but I confirmed with chads that the zyklop stuff is made in taiwan.
Anthony
i dont care what anyone says about taiwan tools…i want my german tools to be german made or else they get grouped in with the lesser brands………
Thomas
this is true, at premium prices you expect them to be European made….
as i said above i have no problem with made in Taiwan, just when its blatently done to make more $$$ for shareholders it annoys me
Stuart
My 3/8″ Zyklop doesn’t say where it’s made, but that doesn’t make me like it any less. Maybe these price drops are the result of a move from German and Czech factories to Taiwan, but it’s hard to say.

Is there anything special about the socket/bit design, or are the innovations really in the extensions and the ratchet? I have more sockets than I would ever need- too bad the ratchet only isn’t also heavily discounted.
Thomas
might be a good time for me to buy one, the zyclop is interesting looking but the Koloss is one i took a shine too, could be very handy in a truck box or when i’m out in the field and want to take as little tools as possible
