Giveaway: Westling Socket Organizer Trays (Made in USA)

Westling Machine Co Socket Holders

It’s official – the Westling socket organizer trays I reviewed last month are staying in my toolbox. My Hanson trays are off to storage (I’m too attached to give them away), and I have finished filling out the Westling trays with a couple more stray sockets and adapters.

Since I am now using the test sample set for personal use, it is only fair that I purchase a set for one lucky reader.

Here’s how the giveaway works: Leave a comment to this post and tell me how you’re storing your sockets right now. Also tell me which Westling trays you can use and want to win, e.g. 1/4″, 3/8″ metric, 1/2″ metric + SAE, and so forth.

If you don’t want a complete 8-piece socket tray organizer set, letting me know will allow me to spread $100 in socket trays (maybe more) among one or more additional winners.

More info on these organizers can be found at the Westling Machine Co. product page, and my review of the complete 8-piece organizer set.

Entry period is now through 8/31/2013. The winner will be selected at random. If the first winner only asks for a partial set, a second winner will be selected at random. The prizes can only be sent to continental-USA addresses.

(These organizers are made in the USA.)

My sockets are laying loose in my toolbox drawers. It’s a nightmare trying to find the correct size socket when I need it.
I could absolutely use an entire set of Westling socket trays. However, I would be ecstatic to win the trays for 3/8″ drive sockets, as I use that drive size the most.

I keep my sockets loose in one of my tool boxes and whilst I would only need one 1/4 inch socket tray, not a complete set, I would certainly appreciate entering this contest please.

    Thank you very much.

About a year and a half ago I purchased a craftsman mechanics set including 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 drive sockets. About a year ago, my basement was flooded with about 4-5′ of water resulting in my previous storage method (old socket rails in a tool chest) to be lost in the flood.

Fortunately I was able to recover the majority of the sockets which were able to resist rusting. They sadly live jumbled up in a toolbox with no orgaization solution at all.

I do have a small tool chest that these would go great in! Thank you in advance for the opportunity!

Hi , i keep my socket in tool box many years in ordinary way , till last year i purchase a dewalt tstack system and purchase a kobalt socket tray (http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?partNumber=338551-22328-85923&langId=-1&storeId=10151&productId=3381278&catalogId=10051&cmRelshp=rel&rel=nofollow&cId=PDIO1) and remove tray from the red steel base and attach it directly and firmly in tstack #1 (all cost is 30 for tstack and 25 for socket tray) and this very sturdy solution to keep sockets portable and firm , i dont know how upload pictures i want to show you how the sockets tray attach to tstack .

Hi. I have a set of 1/2 walden worchester sockets that need a new home. The case is so dented that all the sockets no longer fit.
I have to keep the 7/8 socket zip tied to the case. Have been eyeing these organizers for some time now. Would greatly appreciate consideration for the 1/2″ sae only.

**Just thought you might like to know, today is my Birthday!

I could use all of them! My sockets are on those Craftsman socket rail clips. Sometimes they clip on and hold, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they’re so tight you can slip and almost cut a finger on them.

I could use the 1/4, 3/8, and i/2 in metric and SAE.

**Did I mention that today is my birthday?

I currently use the socket rails from Snap-on that is a band of wire on a rail used to hold the socket in place (pain in the butt), these look really nice and since I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 to 30 sockets sets, everything for 1/4 to 1/2 in both metric and standard these could come in very handy. Thanks for the Opportunity to win these.

Last month I made a comment in the Westling review that I was using the Hansen plastic organizers, and that a lot of the nibs/pegs had broken off, so the utility was diminished. Since then I’ve been digging around in my socket drawers and realized just how bad the situation has become… more than a third of my sockets are just rolling around in there. Help, please!

While I would love to be chosen to receive an entire set, even a partial set would be incredibly helpful. The vast majority of my loose sockets are 3/8″ drive in SAE and metric.

I’ve been interested in these since I first saw them around Christmas. I’d love to replace my current socket storage (sheet of painted mdf with holes drilled for each socket) with a full set of these. I can see buying a couple extra trays for 6 point sockets. Made in the USA is a huge selling point for me.

I’m currently using the cheap $.50 HFT ones and I honestly dont have anything negative to say about them. They work just fine and if you buy a bunch of them (I think I have 20 in total) you can add more clips to the rails and customize them the way you want them. They are totally worth the money for what they are!

But with that said, I totally wouldn’t mind having a set of these fancy ones. 3/8 metrics are my go to sets since I work mostly on import cars.

    Dear ToolGuyd Representative,
I’m currently serving a life time sentence of harbor freight socket rails. The are very deceiving, they look like they hold sockets, they act like they hold sockets, but then you pick up the rail and some or most of the sockets fall off.

Please grant me a pardon from this horrible injustice. I could use the complete set.

I have the Craftsman 299 piece easy read socket set still in the box sitting next to the cabinet. Would love the Westling trays to organize the new sockets. However, I think you should save your money and take your wife/girlfriend/significant other out to dinner (you don’t need to spend your own money for something to give away). I love your blog!

I do volunteer work for a homeless dog shelter that specializes in bull dog – shitzu cross dogs. My sockets are loose in my pockets, and most of my jeans have holes in them. The poor puppies have nothing to play with and run after the rolling sockets and I worry they will choke on them.

These Bull Shitzu puppies are so adorable, a tray for my 1/2 metric sockets may save the life of one someday.

I am storing my sockets in the original case and the case is in my toolbox, so I need to open a drawer put the socket case on the top of my chest and open it. Its not verry convenient.. So the Westling Machine socket organiser is the perfect companion for my socket. I would like to have the set because I use most of my socket plus If I have a empty spot it will give me a chance to buy some Wera bit adapter.

I have everything from 1/4″ to 1/2″ shallow and deep. It’s a real challenge storing them in hansen or harbor freight type organizers. Most of them have labels that aren’t for typical socket sizes, so you have holes in your set which = wasted space, or you use them for sockets of the wrong size. I like the looks of the Westling organizers.

Another consideration is SAE vs MM organization. I like how the Westling organizers are color coded so you can easily to to the set you want, vs the black harbor freight ones, or the generic steel colored socket rails.

I tried to “make” a custom socket tray by riveting socket rails to sheet metal, but it’s flimsy, can’t take just one ‘set’ out, etc. Also impact sockets are too large for my current organizers. I’d really like a Westling set to get everything neat and organized!

At work I’m using the Hansen organizers which I do like because they are made in the US. Not every tool in my box at work is made in the US but since I work in a fabrication shop that customizes in making aluminum extrusion equipment I look at it that we are making an American made product the least I can do is use American made tools on it. With all of that being said I have been eyeing these Westling organizers for a while. Not only would it save me some money which would probably be spent on another tool, but I could bring my Hansen organizers home for my toolbox at home which just has the sockets in a drawer loose.

I decided I didn’t have enough HF organizers, I was at Lowe’s debating whether $7.99 was too much for a single organizer tray, when I saw they also had 3-packs (1/4, 3/8, 1/2) of the same trays for $4.99. That made decision making easier. I pointed out the pricing discrepency to the tool area sales guy, who hadn’t noticed it and was quite amused as well.

I have tried a couple different options. My current setup involves my tools being stored in the basement of my house and most work needing to be done outside or in my small garage. This has made it necessary for something i can move with me to the work site. Right now plastic socket tool box has been my option with the sockets loose inside it. I have found most organizers don’t hold the socket strong enough to to carry around. I end up with a box of loose sockets most times anyway so i just stopped using the holders.

Would like to give these a try.

I have mine in the blow molded cases they came in. Every time I pick the thing up by it’s handle they all fall out of their holders inside and when I open them up I end up with a mess of sockets I have to sort through to find the right one. Why make a case that doesn’t hold them properly? Craftsman are you listening?! Oh, right, you’re not. If you were listening to your customers maybe you wouldn’t be outsourcing your ratchets to china! Maybe these holders will help. Like that they are made in USA.

Although I bought a nice Husky tool chest on the last Black Friday sale to help organize my apartment workshop the sockets still live in the plastic case that constantly lets half of the sockets fall out if I dare to hold it upright by the handle.

I currently use, and am historically partial, to using socket rails. Mostly Craftsman and Armstrong, both standards length and short length for abbreivated speciality socket sets. My main priorities are flexibilty and portability. I typically take the whole rail of a given size/style to my work. I have the storge capacity in my toolbox, but prefer to hang them on the pegboard. I have color coded the rail handles by drive size and metric/SAE.

Being satisfied with my current arrangement, should my entry get picked, just pass me over onto the next guy.

I use spring post metal handles purchased at sears or lowes. Two that hold the sockets horozontal but the sockets fall out when the tray is picked up. Not good

I’d love the 1/4″ and 3/8″ metric and SAE sets. After buying and trying several plastic storage systems over the years, I think it’s now time for metal. These look good, are well-designed and constructed, and are made in the USA. [fingers crossed]

My sockets are currently sitting in Lowes plastic trays. I’d love a full set of trays.

I’m current using a full set (SAE/Metric) of Harbor Freight plastic organizers and half of two sets (SAE/Metric) of Kobalt plastic organizers. I have a lot of sockets. Yeah I could use the whole set, sorry to seem greedy.

I am using some junky plastic socket trays that have the size numbers wearing off. I would like to have a complete set of these trays.

Unfortunately, Harbor Freight, Kobalt, and Hansen trays do not go above 27mm in 1/2″ drive. My impact socket set goes up to 36mm, I have not found a useful way of storing them as of yet, but remember these trays getting raves about over at the Garage Journal. They have been on my wish list ever since. All I NEED is 1/2″ trays. I can see uses for the smaller drive sizes, such as carrying sockets too and from vehicles (as I have broken many Hansen trays in this fashion). Right now, I am an 18 year old student working out of his garage, these trays are in fact on my wish list. Hello from kunkernator@ Garage Journal 🙂

Currently I use a combination of original containers, Ernst plastic tool bars and Craftsman metal bars (a nightmare) to hold my Proto, Armstrong and Craftsman sockets. Many wind up rolling loose on the drawer of the tool chest. I need to organize all of them. These look promising and I would especially like the 3/8″ drive in SAE and metric.. Thanks.

I use the HFT metal rails and the pastil retail racks that Cman sockets come it. I could really use the whole set.

I could use all of these trays, I’ve got a mix of DIY home made junk racks and some hansen trays that don’t quite fit right!!

I could use all as well, I keep all my sockets in a clunky craftsman plastic box that does not say in their slots during transport.

They are OK, but they take up a lot of room.

Everything I have used has broken or doesn’t fit in the drawer. These look tough enough and are the right fit.

I currently store my sockets loose in several drawers. The entire set would be my fondest desire, but any fraction thereof would be entirely acceptable.

I currently keep my sockets organized by size (1/4, 3/8, 1/2) SAE and Metric sorted into ziplock bags. It can be a pain searching through the bags for the correct size. This would be a major upgrade and timesaver.

Given that all my sockets are just loose in a drawer (after my attempt at a homemade tray failed) I could use all of them.

Used steel rails and clips for years and got sick of fighting ’em. Briefly tried Hansens but had too many sockets that wouldn’t fit down over the posts. Finally invested in a set of Westlings and love ’em! Now I’d like another set to organize all the hex, torx, u-joint, and a multitude of other misc sockets that are rolling around the drawers.

All my sockets are loose and “piled high” in several drawers.
A mess, and I know it.
Money is tight for accessories presently, and I never see them used a garage sales.

Half of my sockets are currently loose in drawer next to my craftsman socket organizer with holes for sockets. Not portable, too much hassle to organize all the time. I need your wrestling tool socket organizer.

Found this product, very interested for mom son who is building his tool box and is using plastic trays which are just not cutting it. Looking at both 3/8 and 1/2 in.
