Wonder Winder Extension Cord Holder

The Green Leaf Wonder Winder is a hand-cranked extension cord winder and basket. It mounts to the wall, and accommodates 75-feet of 12/3 gauge cord, 100-feet of 14/3 gauge cord, or 150-feet of 16/3 gauge cord.

Once you set things up, all you need to do is pull out as much cord as you need for a project. When you’re done and ready to stow the cord, press the rewind lever and use the hand-crank to draw the extension cord back into the hanging basket.

While we’ve never used this ourselves, we’ve seen the Wonder Winder pop up in catalogs and shops everywhere, usually with gushing reviews. The extension cord winder is currently priced at less than $20.

I have two and think they are great! I got mine from Menards for $11, but that was 3 years ago too….

As you note above you can pull as much cord out as you need and then get it out of your way quickly when done.

I purchased one from Amazon a year ago. I really like it, keeps the cord organized and if you tend to use an extision cord a lot it’s really handy. I set it up so the cord reaches out to the driveway which is great when I am cleaning out the car(s). For the price and the frustration it saves when you with your extension cord I think it was a great deal.

I had one, but got rid of it because it was easier and faster to just coil the cord. The design has several flaws, especially with heavier gauge extension cords. First, you press on the lever on top of the to get friction between the cord and the rotating wheel so that the cord will retract into the basket. But with heavier gauge cords (or wet cords), it takes tremendous pressure to get enough friction so that the cord comes in. The wheel is relatively smooth which does not help either. Second, there is a little plastic grommet which is supposed to keep the end of the cord attached to the bottom of the basket, but it is hopelessly lightweight and poorly designed, so continually detaches from the cord. Finally, finding a place to store this entire contraption with a cord is difficult as it is awkwardly shaped.

I threw mine away and just coil my cords now the old fashioned way. Much faster.

Maybe if you had higher gauge cords (14+) and lived in a dry climate it would be ok. But I wouldn’t waste your money.

I use one of those orange reels for what little I do with extension cords. I take the entire cord off the reel when I want to use it. I think it is better to have several extension cords of various lengths.

I’ve had one for about 10 years. It’s in my garage and I can quickly roll the amount cord I need do what I need like using my leaf blower and then quickly roll it up nice and neat. After 10 years usage finally broke it. I went about 2 weeks without it but quickly realized I needed another one. Got my second one and I’m back in business.

Does anyone know where I can get parts for my Wonder Winder? I need the part that attaches to the wall & holds the unit.
