Woodpeckers 6″ Carpenters Square is Long Overdue

Woodpeckers 6-inch Carpenter Square

Woodpeckers just introduced a new 6″ carpenters square that has been long overdue. The square is machined from cast and ground aluminum tooling plate, features machined 90° and 45° angles and has a solid beefy base that also functions as a handle.

Woodpeckers previously only offered a 12″ carpenter triangle, which is a bit large for the woodworking projects I usually work on. The 12″ square has laser engraved markings, but the new 6″ version does not.

It’s a nice tool…but at $45 it’s way out of my league for a static tool. My Swanson 7″ speed square was about $9 and works just fine.

For what it is, I would agree that $40-45 is a big high, but Woodpeckers tools are excellent precision tools. In comparison with their other tools, I would guess that the tool’s special tooling aluminum composition (compared to aircraft aluminum) greatly contributes to its cost.

@ Stuart – I agree, Woodpecker makes fine tools. But they are soooo nice, and soooo expensive that I would be afraid to use them.

The new red anodized unit comes laser etched with inch scale markings on the vertical leg!!!!

I like tools that you buy once and never feel the need to upgrade again. Woodpeckers makes one proud to use their tools and to have the quality of a made in the USA product just adds icing on the cake.
