Here is a video of a woodworker turning chess piece on his manual muscle-powered lathe. With one hand operating the bow lathe, he uses a foot to help guide the chisel, turning his work into a whole body experience.
Thanks to my wife for the tip!

He made a captive ring on that one!!! that is crazy!

What Joe said! That captive ring is amazing, considering that he’s hand powering the lathe rig with one hand and introducing all sorts of vibration, etc. Very impressive.

I saw the captivated ring while he was still working on it, but not in the finished piece. Going back and taking a closer look, there it is! Very neat.

Great – he’ll be able to make up to $1.00 /hr (if he sits there 20hrs/day) selling his foot-turned chess sets to tourists.
