Zero Tolerance Battle Spatula and a Really Pink Knife (April Fools 2015)

Zero Tolerance Tactical Spatula April Fools 2015

For their April Fools Day gag this year, Zero Tolerance “announced” a couple of new knives and tools, with the Battle Spatula and a pink version of the ZT 0801 knife being my two clear favorites.

The spatula has a serrated cutting edge, a carbide glass breaker at the butt of the handle, and a knuckled meat tenderizer. That piercer at the tip? No idea. Maybe it’s a deterrent for when someone gets too close to your grilling? I don’t remember what the flippy part on the handle is for. Shoulder brace?

The pink looks quite good on this knife. It’s based off of the 0801 Rexford knife, which I own and love using. I showed the image of the gag knife to my wife, and she looked it over for a moment. There wasn’t an immediate “ewwwww” as ZT might have expected from men and women alike.

Both of us agree that the furry frilly part should go, and my wife doesn’t like the bubbly design on the knife blade itself, but other than that it’s not an unattractive knife.

I don’t know how one could give a titanium handle such an even and bright pink hue (very careful anodizing?), but I suppose that’ll be Zero Tolerance’s problem to solve if they ever do want to make a pink Ti-handled knife. That pattern has got to be difficult to anodize around as well.

Although April Fools Day gags, I kind of wish these were real. The spatula could be toned down a little, but I’m sure they would still sell plenty as it is.

As far as I can tell you can attach the word “tactical” to literally any object, multiply the price by at least 5, paint it black, and sell by the thousands. I wouldn’t expect a spatula to be any different.

As someone who cuts a little into a steak to see how done they are while grilling, the sharpened spatula edge would actually be useful. Replace the glass cutter with a bottle opener, get rid of the folding buttstock, and it might actually be a selling product. Not sure on the extra little hook on the spatula opposite the sharpened side, maybe replace it with short fork prongs.
Now, pink knives do sell, at least in a limited number.

I have a spatula, referred to as a “man tool” which is a spatula with a serrated edge and a bottle opener. And yes, it’s awesome 🙂

Isn’t that a can opener on the side?
